นักวิเคราะห์กล่าวว่า ตลาดหุ้นสหรัฐในปี 2561 ทำสถิติปรับตัวย่ำแย่ที่สุดในรอบ 10 ปี เนื่องจากนักลงทุนวิตกกังวลเกี่ยวกับการดำเนินนโยบายคุมเข้มทางการเงินของธนาคารกลางสหรัฐ (เฟด) รวมทั้งเศรษฐกิจสหรัฐที่ส่งสัญญาณชะลอตัวลง ส่งผลให้ตลาดหุ้นสหรัฐมีแนวโน้มอ่อนแอและอาจเผชิญกับความผันผวนต่อไปในปีนี้ แม้ตลาดหุ้นสหรัฐปิดตลาดในแดนบวกเมื่อวันที่ 31 ธ.ค.ซึ่งเป็นวันทำการวันสุดท้ายของปี 2561 แต่ภาพรวมตลอดปี 2561 นั้น ดัชนีดาวโจนส์ดิ่งลง 5.6%, ดัชนี S&P 500 ทรุดตัวลง 6.2% และดัชนี Nasdaq ร่วงลง 3.9% โดยดัชนีทั้ง 3 ต่างปรับตัวลงมากที่สุดนับตั้งแต่ปี 2551

เมื่อพิจารณาไตรมาส 4 ของปี 2561 พบว่า ดัชนีดาวโจนส์ร่วงลงเกือบ 12% ซึ่งเป็นการปรับตัวย่ำแย่ที่สุดนับตั้งแต่ไตรมาสแรกของปี 2552 ส่วนดัชนี S&P 500 และดัชนี Nasdaq ดิ่งลง 13.97% และ 17.50% ตามลำดับ ซึ่งเป็นการปรับตัวย่ำแย่ที่สุดนับตั้งแต่ไตรมาส 4 ของปี 2552
ทั้งนี้ เฉพาะเดือนธ.ค. ดัชนีดาวโจนส์, ดัชนี S&P 500 และดัชนี Nasdaq ต่างทรุดตัวลงไม่น้อยกว่า 8.7% โดยดัชนีดาวโจนส์ และดัชนี S&P 500 ทำสถิติปรับตัวในเดือนธ.ค.2561 ย่ำแย่ที่สุดนับตั้งแต่ปี 2474 และดิ่งลงเมื่อเทียบรายเดือนมากที่สุดนับตั้งแต่เดือนก.พ.2552
ความผันผวนในตลาดมีความรุนแรงมากขึ้นหลังจากเฟดประกาศขึ้นอัตราดอกเบี้ยระยะสั้น 0.25% ในการประชุมเดือนธ.ค. ซึ่งเป็นการปรับขึ้นอัตราดอกเบี้ยครั้งที่ 4 ในปี 2561 และถือเป็นครั้งที่ 9 นับตั้งแต่ช่วงปลายปี 2558 ขณะที่เฟดพยายามเดินตามเป้าหมายที่จะปรับดอกเบี้ยให้กลับสู่ภาวะปกติอย่างเป็นทางการ

ตลาดหุ้นสหรัฐได้รับแรงกดดันอย่างหนัก เนื่องจากนักลงทุนต่างวิตกกังวลเกี่ยวกับการปรับขึ้นอัตราดอกเบี้ยของเฟดนับตั้งแต่ต้นเดือนต.ค.ปีนี้
หลังจากมีกระแสคาดการณ์ว่าเศรษฐกิจสหรัฐจะชะลอตัวลง เจ้าหน้าที่ของเฟดจึงออกมาประกาศว่าทางธนาคารกลางจะปรับขึ้นอัตราดอกเบี้ย 2 ครั้งในปีหน้า ซึ่งลดลงจากระดับ 3 ครั้งที่ประกาศไว้เมื่อเดือนกันยายน อย่างไรก็ตาม นักวิเคราะห์บางส่วนมองว่า เฟดและนักลงทุนมีมุมมองที่แตกต่างกันเกี่ยวกับการที่เศรษฐกิจโลกชะลอตัว ส่งผลให้เกิดความไม่แน่นอนเกี่ยวกับภาพรวมในตลาดหุ้น

Although the US stock market closed in positive territory on Dec. 31, which was the last business day of 2018, but overall throughout the year 2018, the Dow Jones index fell 5.6%, the S&P 500 index fell 6.2% and the Nasdaq. Fell by 3.9%, with the three indexes falling the most since 2008

Considering the fourth quarter of 2018, the Dow Jones index fell by almost 12%, which is the worst adjustment since the first quarter of 2009. The S&P 500 and the Nasdaq index fell 13.97% and 17.50%, respectively, which was a bad adjustment. The most since the fourth quarter of 2009

Market volatility is more severe after the Fed announced a short-term interest rate of 0.25% at the December meeting. Which is the 4th interest rate increase in 2018 and is considered the 9th time since the end of 2015, while the Fed is trying to follow the goal of adjusting the interest to return to the normal state officially.

The US stock market has been under heavy pressure. As investors are concerned about the Fed's interest rate hike since the beginning of October this year.
